KALABAYR, Somalia (Horn Life) –Puntland defense forces have captured two foreign ISIS militants near the Kalabayr area in the Bari region, following a sweeping military operation that dismantled a key terrorist stronghold during the recent Almiskaad offensive.

Security officials confirmed that the fugitives were apprehended in the mountainous terrain surrounding Kalabayr, where they had fled after Puntland troops launched a decisive campaign against ISIS fighters in December 2024.

The captured suspects are expected to be transferred to the Almiskaad operation’s central command in Bosaso, where they will undergo a comprehensive investigation. Following the inquiry, the suspects will be handed over to the Puntland military court for prosecution, according to sources involved in the operation.

Puntland forces continue to maintain an aggressive security posture in the Almiskaad hills of the Bari region. The ongoing operations are part of wider efforts to stabilize the area and eliminate threats posed by extremist groups active in northeastern Somalia.
