MOGADISHU, Somalia – Heavy fighting has been reported in Kenya’s North Eastern region, where up to 70 Al-Shabaab militants are said to have launched an attack in the Boni Forest area of Lamu County. The militants targeted Kenyan military forces stationed in the region, causing significant casualties.
At least five Kenyan soldiers have been confirmed dead, while eight others sustained injuries. The wounded were quickly evacuated to Nairobi for urgent medical treatment.
Lamu Police Commander Wesley Koech reported that the militants attempted to cross the Bodhei-Lamu border but encountered Kenyan Special Operations Group (SOG) forces near Garissa, sparking a violent clash. Koech stated that the group planned to carry out high-risk terror attacks deeper inside Kenya, but their plans were foiled.
This assault comes just days after another deadly attack in Mandera East, where five quarry workers were killed in Bur Abor village during an early morning raid. Authorities suspect Al-Shabaab involvement.
The militant group continues to carry out attacks in Kenya, frequently targeting security personnel and installations in border areas.
