Big rally in Kenya’s capital as Somalis demand justice for brutally murdered women

NAIROBI, Kenya – Three Somali women from the same family were brutally murdered in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi early this week, an incident that sent a shock wave through the community in Eastleigh.

Waris Daud, 36, her daughter Amina Abdirashid, 21, and her niece Nuseiba Dahir, 12 went missing on Monday night and were later found dead in different locations in Kenya. They were killed by unknown assailants.

On Thursday, businesses in Eastleigh were closed with Somali community members taking to the streets to call on the police to arrest those responsible for the killings swiftly and bring them to justice.

The Kenya police said an investigation was underway to find the perpetrators of the heinous killings. The funeral of the three women’s bodies now at the Nairobi City Mortuary will take place on Friday.

It remains unclear the motive behind the murder which showed that the Somali community still faces the risk of abductions and killings.
