Somalia: Al-Shabaab Wives Appear In Military Court In Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Five Al-Shabaab wives were arraigned in Somali military court in Mogadishu court on Tuesday after they were detained on their way to El-Bur, a militant-controlled town in Galgadud region, officials said.

One other woman appeared in the same court. She was traveling along with the Al-Shabaab wives in a car that was intercepted by the security forces before reaching its destination. The 6th girl told the court that she wanted to meet with her brother in El-Bur town.

The wives, including minors, have come from the Qoryoley district and other areas in the Southwest State of Somalia.

Mohamed Hilowle, who was in charge of their travel arrangement was given a jail term. He tried to facilitate the trip of the Al-Shabaab wives within Mogadishu but his mission failed after the security forces captured him at Siinaay junction in Wardhigley district.

The girls will be transferred to a rehabilitation center in Mogadishu, where they will be held for unlimited time.
