MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab militant group killed three traders in Mogadishu on Monday after installing CCTV cameras on their businesses under the directive of the Somali government amid a ban.
Militants armed with Pistols attacked the three men in their shops in Yaqshid district and subsequently killed them on the spot, according to eyewitnesses, who spoke to HornLife on the phone from the scene on condition of anonymity.
The security forces cordoned off the crime site and carried out an investigation but no arrest was made for the targeted assassination of the businessmen. The incident sent a wave of shock among the owners of the commercial centers in Mogadishu, who installed the CCTV camera.
At least 9 traders were killed in the city this month and the security forces are not taking enough measures to protect the business people, who they forced to implement the government order about the CCTV camera installations amid Al-Shabaab warning.
There are several businesses closed due to the new threat from Al-Shabaab and it is unclear what steps the government will take to deal with the increasing killings.
