Explosion in Mogadishu Kills 3 Soldiers, Al-Shabaab Claims Responsibility

MOGADISHU, Somalia – A devastating landmine blast in the Dayniile District of Mogadishu claimed the lives of at least three Somali National Army soldiers and injured three others late last night. The incident occurred near Xero Bangalo on the district’s main thoroughfare, highlighting the persistent threat of insurgent violence in the capital.

The explosive device, identified as a landmine, was strategically placed to intercept a vehicle carrying military personnel, resulting in immediate casualties. Local sources confirmed that the aftermath saw additional military units dispatched to the area to manage the situation, secure the vicinity, and retrieve the wounded and deceased.

Al-Shabaab, the Islamist militant group with ties to al-Qaeda, swiftly claimed responsibility for the attack. The group has been notorious for employing such tactics to undermine the Somali government and its allies.

While the Somali Federal Government has yet to issue an official statement on this specific incident, the attack underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by Mogadishu despite efforts to curb militant activities. Dayniile, known for its strategic military installations, has frequently been a target for Al-Shabaab’s violent campaigns.

The incident disrupts a period of relative calm in Mogadishu, where recent security operations had aimed at bolstering safety for its residents.
