Somalia: Airstrike Targets Al-Shabaab Base Near Mogadishu; Casualties Reported

BALCAD, Somalia – An overnight airstrike targeted Al-Shabaab militants in the Middle Shabelle region on the outskirts of Balcad district, sources said on Monday.

The attack occurred between Hawadley and Balcad, an area previously hit by Al-Shabaab assaults on government forces, resulting in significant casualties.

The airstrike focused on Al-Shabaab bases, reportedly causing substantial damage to the group’s infrastructure and personnel. Key militant facilities were destroyed, and there were additional reports of deaths and injuries among the fighters.

No official comments have been issued by the Somali Federal Government regarding the airstrike or the extent of the damage inflicted.

Hawadley, from which African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) troops have withdrawn, has seen increased militant activity, with Al-Shabaab targeting government positions, heightening regional tensions.

The situation in Balcad district continues to be tense, with ongoing resistance indicating a persistent battle for regional control in Middle Shabelle.
