MOGADISHU, Somalia – At least 10 people have been killed and dozens injured in fierce fighting between two clans in Xararxeyle village, located about 45 km south of El Buur in the Galgadud region, local sources reported on Saturday.
The conflict pits clans from El-Buur and Guri’el against each other, deepening the already volatile situation in central Somalia, where the Somali army battled against Al-Shabaab for years with the support of local fighters.
The Galgadud and Mudug regions have become notorious battlegrounds for clan conflicts, with this latest episode adding to the grim tally of violence in these areas. Reports suggest that the fighting has escalated with both sides receiving reinforcements, leading to an exodus of residents fleeing the violence.
Efforts to quell the unrest are underway, with local leaders and authorities attempting to mediate and restore peace. However, the immediate impact of the clashes has seen many villagers abandoning their homes, seeking safety in neighboring areas or beyond.
