Ethiopia denies Somalia’s claims of attack on its forces in border town

Addis Ababa – Ethiopia on Tuesday refuted allegations from Somalia that its forces were responsible for an attack in the border town of Doolow, branding the accusations “not true” and attributing the incident to “certain elements” intent on sabotaging the normalisation of ties between the two neighbours.

The Somali foreign ministry had earlier claimed that Ethiopian troops assaulted its soldiers in Doolow, in the Gedo region, on Monday morning, just days after both nations committed to de-escalating tensions under the Ankara Declaration.

Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in its rebuttal, expressed disappointment at the accusations while reaffirming its dedication to improving relations with Somalia. The ministry also pledged to work with Somali authorities to prevent future conflicts, urging both countries to stand firm against “spoilers of peace” in the Horn of Africa.
