Djibouti City, Djibouti — July 2, 2025: Hon. Mohamed Jibril Mohamed, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Djibouti, participated in a high-level government meeting chaired by President Ismail Omar Guelleh at the Presidential Palace, where the Head of State outlined a National Action Plan to combat the severe drought affecting the country.
During the session, President Guelleh presented key strategic measures designed to mitigate the devastating impact of water scarcity and strengthen coordination among government ministries. Each ministry involved in drought-related sectors was instructed to intensify its efforts and deliver measurable results.
The Prime Minister, Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed, will oversee the coordination of the national response, ensuring unified government action against the drought.
Following the meeting, the Prime Minister announced the immediate rollout of emergency assistance:
“Under the instruction of the President, the government will deliver water and food supplies within 48 hours to communities most affected by the drought,” he said.
The meeting was attended by several senior officials, including the Ministers of Interior, Budget, Health, Commerce, Defense, Environment, and Social Affairs, as well as key government secretaries.
This initiative reaffirms Djibouti’s commitment to protecting vulnerable populations and building long-term resilience against the recurring effects of drought and climate change.
