Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Hon. Mohamed Jibril Mohamed, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Djibouti, attended the opening day of the 2nd African Climate Summit, where President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti urged for an effective adaptation strategy across Africa to address the growing impact of climate change.
President Guelleh emphasized that Africa must prioritize adaptation efforts, restore degraded ecosystems, and invest in the social development of vulnerable communities. He also highlighted the importance of establishing a sustainable climate finance mechanism and increasing renewable energy funding to at least 20% by 2030.
During his remarks, President Guelleh underlined Djibouti’s leadership through initiatives such as the Sovereign Carbon Agency, which transforms carbon contributions into community adaptation projects.
Hon. Mohamed Jibril Mohamed’s participation reflects Djibouti’s continued engagement in regional and global climate dialogue, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable development, green transition, and African solidarity in combating the effects of climate change.
