Zurich, Switzerland – 29 May 2025
As part of his continued working visit to Switzerland, Hon. MP Ahmed Deeq Abdiaziz, Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Jubbaland Parliament, held a special meeting with prominent Somali women leaders and community members residing in the Zurich region.
The event brought together key figures from the Somali diaspora and community organizations, including Mr. Mohamed Hassan Camalow, First Secretary at the Somali Embassy in Switzerland; Mr. Said Ali Hidig, Chairman of the Somali Diaspora Union in Switzerland and head of the Zurich Somali Community; and other senior members of the local Somali diaspora network.
Discussions during the session focused on the role of women in diaspora development, community engagement, and strengthening ties between Somali regional institutions and communities abroad. The dialogue also addressed issues of women’s leadership, youth empowerment, and the importance of inclusivity in political processes.
“The voice and contribution of Somali women abroad are essential to the social and economic development of our homeland. Our engagement must be inclusive and representative,” said Hon. Ahmed Deeq during his remarks.
Participants welcomed the opportunity to speak directly with a representative from Jubbaland’s parliament and emphasized the need for continued dialogue and collaboration between the Somali diaspora and institutional leadership.
The Zurich meeting marked another successful milestone in Hon. Ahmed Deeq’s diplomatic tour across Switzerland, following his earlier official visit to the Somali Embassy in Geneva.
