AFGOYE, Somalia – At least four people were killed and two others sustained injuries when their civilian vehicle triggered a landmine on a rural road between Afgoye and Wanlaweyn districts in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region on Sunday afternoon.
The deadly IED explosion took place in the Doonka area, affecting a vehicle traveling towards Afgoye, as reported by residents. The injured were immediately transported to a local medical facility for emergency care.
Although no group has yet claimed responsibility for this tragic event, suspicion typically falls on Al-Shabaab, the militant group known for orchestrating similar attacks throughout Somalia, targeting both civilian populations and security personnel.
As of now, there has been no official statement from Somali government officials regarding the attack or the number of casualties involved. The incident underscores the persistent security challenges in regions plagued by insurgent activities.
