Somalia: Govt Forces Clash with Al-Shabaab, Kill Ten Militants in Central Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali government forces engaged in a fierce battle with al-Shabaab militants in central Somalia’s Galgadud region on Tuesday, resulting in the death of at least ten insurgents, local officials reported. The conflict erupted after al-Shabaab initiated an attack in the rural zone between the towns of Bod and Budbud.

According to Ahmed Abdulle Adan, an official from the region, the Somali National Army effectively countered the assault. “Our forces showed great courage and were able to push back the attackers, eliminating ten al-Shabaab members,” he told local media.

The military has since launched operations to pursue any remaining militants in the area. The clash, which lasted roughly an hour, saw both parties using a variety of weapons.

There were no reported casualties among the government troops, which showcased the military’s capability in combating al-Shabaab, a group known for frequent attacks aiming to destabilize Somalia. The engagement highlights the ongoing struggle against the insurgents, who pose a persistent threat to the nation’s peace and security.
