MOGADISHU, Somalia — In a recent military update, the command of Somalia’s armed forces detailed a fierce engagement in Ras Khabow, Middle Shabelle region, where they successfully repelled an assault by Al-Shabaab militants, leading to significant losses for the insurgents.
The operation, executed by the 251st Unit of the 25th Brigade, known as Omar Binu Khadab, was meticulously planned to counter the offensive by Al-Shabaab. According to Mohamed Hassan Abukar Dhala Dhere, the brigade commander, the national forces not only thwarted the attack but also inflicted severe casualties on the militants, killing at least 25 fighters.
“The heroes of the National Army effectively countered the Al-Shabaab attack at our base in Ras Khabow, resulting in the elimination of 25 of their fighters,” Dhala Dhere told the media.
The military operation continues as Somali forces pursue the remaining members of the Al-Shabaab group who initiated the attack in Ras Khabow. There has been no immediate response from Al-Shabaab regarding the outcome of the clash.
Middle Shabelle has been a focal point for military operations, with the first phase of the conflict seeing Al-Shabaab suffer significant setbacks. The ongoing liberation efforts in the region aim to completely dismantle the militant group’s presence, bolstering national security and stability.
The success at Ras Khabow underscores the Somali National Army’s determination and capability to defend against insurgent attacks while pushing forward with operations to reclaim control over areas previously dominated by Al-Shabaab.
