Somalia: Hirshabelle President Sacks Six Ministers in Cabinet Overhaul

JOWHAR, Somalia – Hirshabelle regional president Ali Abdullahi Hussein (Gudlawe) has dismissed six cabinet members in a significant reshuffle aimed at revamping government performance amid growing public discontent.

According to a series of official decrees from the presidential palace, the following officials were relieved of their posts: the Minister of Commerce, Minister of Public Works, Minister of Energy and Water Resources, State Minister for Constitutional Affairs, State Minister for Internal Security, and the State Minister for Energy and Water.

New appointees were named immediately, with the expectation that they will assume their duties without delay.

A presidential spokesperson said the reshuffle is part of broader efforts to accelerate public service delivery and reinforce accountability within the government.
“This move reflects our commitment to strengthening institutional performance and responding to public needs,” the spokesperson told Horn Life on condition of anonymity.

No detailed explanation was provided for the dismissals, but sources close to the matter indicated that a recent high-level cabinet meeting chaired by President Gudlawe raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of some ministers.

The shake-up comes as frustration builds among residents over what many describe as a lack of progress in essential services.
“Frequent reshuffles won’t fix the problem unless there’s real development on the ground,” said a local activist in Jowhar. “We want results, not just replacements.”

The political changes also coincide with a renewed threat from Al-Shabaab, as the militant group recently recaptured several districts in Hirshabelle that had previously been liberated by Somali forces.

Analysts say the move may reflect both internal dissatisfaction with cabinet performance and external pressure to stabilize the region during a volatile period.
