MOGADISHU, Somalia – The President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud joined a chorus of global leaders in congratulations of Donald Trump on his historic US presidential election on Wednesday.
In a statement, Mohamud said he is eager to see strengthened relations and cooperation in security and peace between Somalia and the US under Trump’s leadership.
“I congratulate you President-elect of the United States of America H.E. Donald Trump on your historic election victory. I look forward to continuing our two nations’ strong collaboration and partnership to advance peace, security, and common prosperity for our two nations,” he added.
Also, former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo expressed his congratulations to Trump after his landslide victory in the US 2024 election.
The U.S. is a key partner of Somalia in the war on Al-Shabaab and has hundreds of special forces on the ground who are assisting and training elite soldiers from the Danab brigade, a counter-terrorism unit within the Somali military.
